ജലദോഷം


1. ചെറുനാരങ്ങാനീരില്‍ സമം തേന്‍ ചേര്ത്ത് ‌ കഴിക്കുക. ഒരു വലിയ സ്‌പൂണ്‍ തേന്‍ ചെറുചൂടുള്ള ബാര്ലി്വെള്ളത്തില്‍ ഒഴിച്ച്‌ കിടക്കാന്‍ നേരത്ത്‌ ദിവസവും കഴിച്ചാല്‍ സ്‌ഥിരമായുള്ള ജലദോഷം മാറും.
2. തുളസിയിലനീര്‌, ചുവന്നുള്ളിനീര്‌, ചെറുതേന്‍ ഇവ ചേര്ത്ത്ോ‌
സേവിക്കുക.
3. തേനില്‍ ഏലക്കായ്‌ ചേര്ത്ത് ‌ കഴിക്കുക.
4. തുളസിയില, ചുക്ക്‌, തിപ്പലി ഇവയെല്ലാംകൂടി ഇട്ട്‌ കഷായംവച്ച്‌ കൂടെക്കൂടെ കുടിക്കുക.

Bitter gourd or Momordica charantia (also known as bitter melon) belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family, of the genus Momordica, home to squash, watermelon, cantaloupes, cucumber, etc. As is the trait within members in the Cucurbitaceae family, bitter gourds are vines with thin stems and tendrils that require trellis to support the climbing vine.
They come in many varieties ranging from dark greens to whites and common varieties are balsam pear, cundeamor, la-kwa, etc. The pods are characterized by smooth lengthwise ridges and uneven warty surface. Depending upon the cultivar type, immature pods are light to dark green and have oblong or oval shapes with a pointed tip at the blossom end. Internally, the flesh is white with rough edged seeds, and gradually turns yellow or orange as they mature, with the seeds turning red.
Bitter gourd contains a unique phyto-constituent that has been confirmed to have a hypoglycemic effect (lowering blood sugar) called Charantin. There is also another insulin-like compound known as Polypeptide P which has been tested as an insulin replacement in some diabetic patients.
Bitter gourd originated on the Indian subcontinent, and was introduced into China in the 14th century. It thrives in hot and humid climates, so are commonly found in Asian countries and South America.

I prefer using home-made garam masala for vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. Garam masala is a mixture of Indian spices. Those spices are not just taste-enhancers. They are rather catalysts that aid digestion. Spices are having several health benefits also. Spices stimulate digestion by enabling better salivary secretions. Spices also contribute to secretion of gastric juice. Spices further enable the abundant secretion of digestive enzymes. Spices do a big job in improving bile acid secretion so that there happen better fat digestion. Apart from these benefits spices do have several health and therapeutic benefits. Below I explain the medicinal benefits of spices used in Indian dishes.

Asafoetida (Kayam in Malayalam, perumkayam in tamil) health benefits
Asafetida is the Indian spice used in vegetarian dishes like sambar. It fights off gas problem and stomach ache. It is a great remedy for colic problem. Ayurveda prescribes asafetida for several problems like convulsions and paralysis. Asafoetida is powerful to bring our phlegm. It is therefore given for dry cough. It is believed to treat premature labor, infertility, miscarriage, menstruation irregularity and other female problems. Menstrual cramps, stomach pain and nausea is also treated by consuming asafetida. Asafoetida is powerful enough to trigger the release of progesterone hormone.

Asafoetida is given as a home remedy for different problems experienced by women after their delivery.. Gas problem is more complex in the case of Caesarian delivery. In the initial days of my breastfeeding I ate fenugreek and it helped me have enough breast milk for my baby.
